Gacha Games & Modding

Gacha Games on Linux

Playing gacha games on Linux used to be a gamble because of anti-cheat software. Today, it's actually incredibly smooth—if you use the right tools.

The best way to play gacha games on Linux is Twintail Launcher. It's a beautiful, polished Flatpak app that supports a wide range of gacha titles — not just Hoyoverse games (Zenless Zone Zero, Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail), but also Wuthering Waves and others.

Why use it over other launchers:

  • One launcher for everything — no need to juggle multiple apps or manually configure Wine/Proton prefixes for each game.
  • Handles all the Linux plumbing — prefixes, environment variables, and compatibility layers are set up automatically.
  • Built-in mod support — if you want to use mods later, Twintail has native XXMI integration (see below).

Installation:

  1. Open your app store (Discover/Software) and install Twintail Launcher.
  2. Launch it, pick your game, and install it directly through the app.

That's it — hit Play and you're in.

Modding Setup (XXMI)

If you want to use mods (e.g., character model swaps via XXMI), Twintail makes it painless. It downloads and manages XXMI for you — no manual installation needed. Do not try to manually inject .dll files or fight Flatpak sandboxes.

Step 1: Enable XXMI for your game

  1. In Twintail Launcher, click on your installed game tile to open its settings.
  2. Click the arrow next to XXMI settings.
  3. Toggle Enable XXMI on.

Twintail will automatically download and set up XXMI for that game.

Step 2: Drop in your mods

XXMI creates a folder per game inside Twintail's data directory. The default location is:

~/.var/app/app.twintaillauncher.ttl/data/twintaillauncher/extras/xxmi/

Inside, you'll find a folder for each game (zzmi, gimi, srmi, wwmi, himi). Each one contains a Mods folder — just drop your downloaded mods there.

(The XXMI folder location is customizable in Twintail Launcher's global settings if you prefer a different path.)

Step 3: Play

Hit the Play! button in Twintail. It will silently launch XXMI in the background, handle the anti-cheat bypass, and inject your mods as the game boots.
